Figures show the lower rate of relapse is those who have attended AA, NA, GA etc using the 12 step model. There are critcs who say it is swapping one addiction for another (ie religeon), but if it works, then who is to argue. I also have a theory that the reason why it is not used by government agencies in the Uk, unlike the US where it originated from, is that it is based on the health concept that addiction is a disease and should be treated with the medical model.
