From Wiktionary under the GNU Free Documentation License. Advocacy is the pursuit of influencing outcomes — including public-policy and resource allocation decisions within political, economic, and social systems and institutions — that directly affect people’s current lives. (Cohen, 2001) Therefore, advocacy can be seen as a deliberate process of speaking out on issues of concern in order to exert some influence on behalf of ideas or persons. However, advocacy has many interpretations depending on the issue at stake, which can be different from this initial value-neutral definition. From Wikipedia under the
GNU Free Documentation License What is the role of a nurse as far as patient advocacy goes? Q. My nursing 110 professor said that being a patient's advocate is one of the most important roles of a nurse. What exactly does "patient advocate" mean? Asked by lovslinky - Wed Sep 5 21:30:33 2007 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments A. A patient advocate means that you stand up for the patient's health, rights, and dignity when others won't do so. This usually involves being the communicator between a patient and a physician. For example, if a particular pain medication is not working for a patient, you can advocate for the patient by speaking with the physician to get a different pain medication ordered. By being a patient advocate, you are ensuring that the patient gets the optimal treatment. Q. I know we all have a lot of complaints about the pageant but besides that, we still have a MIss America who works hard as an advocate for her own chosen platform. What would you like to see her working on for our country? Asked by Marmalade - Wed May 14 19:47:06 2008 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments A. Anything she is passionate about! If she isn't passionate about her platform and just picks it for her pageant resume, she won't put her full effort into it.
