Q. Suppose that we turn over two cards simultaneously from two well shuffled decks of cards until there are no cards left in either deck. What is the probability that two cards on the ith card are identical? Asked by Samnang - Mon Feb 11 01:48:51 2008 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments A. When you first look at this problem it seems very difficult because you have to account for the option that which ever card you drew on the rth draw from deck 1 cannot be the ith card in deck 2 and so on. However, if you consider deck 1 to just be one possible permutation of the the 52 cards then the probability that any one card would be in the ith position is 1/52. To confirm this by simulation I wrote a short bit of code in R. deck <- 1:52; sims <- 1000; prob <- c(); for(i in 1:sims) { s1 <- sample(deck); s2 <- sample(deck); prob[i] <- sum(s1 == s2)/52; } mean(prob) the out put of the 1000 trials was 0.01975 1/52 = 0.01923077 Answered by Merlyn - Tue Feb 12 23:28:55 2008 Is credit card debt considered an open account or a written contract? Q. I live in the State of Georgia and am being sued over an old credit card that I defaulted on. It has been more than 4 years but less than 6 years since the date of default, so depending on whether credit card debt is considered an open account or a written contract in the State of Georgia, the Statute of Limitations may or may not apply. The Staute of Limitations is 4 years for open accounts and 6 years for written contracts. Does anyone know for certain which type applies for credit card debt in Georgia? The account is with Citibank MasterCard and was opened in the late 80's or early 90's. Thanks. Asked by Stephen S - Mon Apr 16 15:13:16 2007 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments A. Spiff! Man you are starting to disappoint me something terrible! The definition of a "written" contact is one where all of the payment issues are completely spelled out. The monthly payments, the timeframe, everything. An "open" or "revolving" credit line does not fall into this catagory because the terms of the agreement change every month. One month you owe $200, and the next you owe $400...and each month you have a varying amount of payment. You can pay it off, and then run it right back up again...that's why they call it a 'revolving" line of credit. This is also clearly spelled out in the US UCC codes, and many states specifically label credit card debts as open accounts. Georgia is one state that specifically labels… [cont.] Answered by Studly - Mon Apr 16 17:25:13 2007 How Can pay for business cards without a credit card or paypal?
